So Close Now…

January 27, 2015

Today’s Tuesday night.  On Thursday, I’m leaving for Québec, for the Winter World Masters Games.

And I’m terrified of actually having to use my French.

I know that this is just a hangover from the whole thing when I went to Benny’s book-signing down in DC.  My tree on Duolingo in French is gold, and I’m more often than not alright (at least to my ears) with trying to mangle a couple of words into a phrase when I need to explain something in French.  So I’m sure that I’m going to do just fine, and… as far as I know, the majority of the places I’m going to should have people who speak English, so if I do something absolutely atrocious, I should be able to swap languages and explain myself.

And on some level, I’m still hoping to not have to resort to English except with the rest of my team, and in talking to the other team.

It’ll be an interesting challenge, on top of another interesting challenge (the curling tournament at the games).

For those of you who are interested in following along – the Games supposedly have a results page (found here) that will have real-time results.  I don’t know how real-time they’ll really be, but… there you have it.  My team – the Israeli national masters’ curling team – is going to be listed as “Team Sidney” (based on the fact that one of my teammates is the one who registered the team).  Our games are Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with the medal rounds on Tuesday… so here’s hoping that we’ll still be listed in real-time results on Tuesday.  And I’ll be back home on Wednesday afternoon/evening.

See you in a week!
